A ruptured gas line caused disruptions to SkyTrain services in Burnaby.

The Millennium Line between Sperling-Burnaby Lake station and Production Way-University was temporarily shut down.

As of 4 p.m., the damaged gas line was brought under control. Shortly after, SkyTrain service in the area has since been restored.

“Our crews remain on site repairing the damaged gas line along Lougheed Highway near Lake City Way,” said Fortis BC spokesperson Holly Harrison.

The utility provider Fortis BC says that a construction company accidentally damaged the gas line along Lougheed Highway in Burnaby.

“An external party who is working in the area damaged a gas service line,” explained Harrison.

The utility provider contacted SkyTrain to close the affected station in the vicinity of the damaged gas line.

“As a safety precaution, we do like to keep the area around clear, which is why we have worked with TransLink to secure those Skytrain stations,” Harrison said.

Fortis BC crews are on the scene to respond to the damaged gas line.

The Burnaby Fire Department says crews are also on scene to assist with the damaged gas line and to cordon off Lake City Way to Philips Avenue along Lougheed Highway.

No public advisory has been issued at this point.

TransLink says it installed a bus bridge between the two affect SkyTrain stations.

Canada and Expo Lines are unaffected.
