Downtown Vancouver drivers face heavy congestion due to convoy Saturday
Drivers in downtown Vancouver were faced with heavy congestion Saturday afternoon as a slow-moving convoy made its way from Langley to Kitsilano.
Calls to 1130 NewsRadio report traffic crawling through the area, with a long line of vehicles moving slowly, honking horns, and displaying Canadian flags.
“We are driving down Water Street right now, and there is a … convoy running through the streets of Gastown,” one caller said.
“People on the streets are waving, but you might want to tell people to stay away from downtown.”
The group behind the convoy, which calls itself Farmers Protest Canada, does not appear to list any affiliation with mainstream agricultural or farm industry associations on social media. Organizers online point to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s controversial ostrich cull in Edgewood earlier this month as one of the event’s protest points.
This is just one in a series of Farmers Protest Canada convoys planned for several other Canadian cities Saturday.
We have reached out to event organizers and the Vancouver Police Department for more information.
