Driver carjacked at gunpoint, has Subaru stolen
A driver in Surrey had a terrifying experience on Thursday evening as he was allegedly carjacked at gunpoint by two men, police say.
The alleged incident happened around 5 p.m. in the city’s Fleetwood neighbourhood along 160 Street between 88 Avenue and the Fraser Highway.
In a statement, the Surrey Police Service explains that the victim was “approached by two male suspects who demanded the keys for his vehicle at gunpoint.”
“The victim was not injured, but his blue 2009 Subaru Impreza was stolen,” said Ian MacDonald, SPS media liaison.
Posts on social media by the victim allege that he was faced with a silver gun before the suspects made off in his manual blue WRX.
Early Friday morning, a two-car collision in Langley, at Fraser Highway and the Langley Bypass, was reported to police. Police confirmed that one of the vehicles involved was the stolen Subaru.
“Witnesses observed the lone male occupant of the stolen vehicle flee from the area on foot immediately after the crash. Fortunately, the driver of the Toyota was not seriously injured,” MacDonald explained.
The investigations into the armed robbery and the crash are ongoing, police say, with the help of the RCMP SPOSU General Investigations Unit and the Langley RCMP.
Anyone with information about the alleged carjacking and crash is being urged to call the Surrey Police Service at 604-599-0502.
