More B.C. liquor stores will be closed behind picket lines Thursday as part of escalating job action by public sector workers.

On Wednesday, 25 stores joined the strike. Earlier this week, the strike expanded to BC Liquor and Cannabis warehouses and the head office.

The BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) says 37 more stores walked off the job Thursday, bringing the total number of workers engaged in job action to over 14,900.

“By withholding labour at liquor and cannabis warehouses and stores, we are reminding government that it’s public service workers who generate the revenue that funds healthcare, education and other community programs,” said a statement by BCGEU President Paul Finch.

“These impacts don’t have to drag on workers want a fair deal, and the sooner government comes back to negotiate, the sooner these disruptions will end.”

A complete list of the picket line locations, including the latest 37 liquor stores can be found on the union’s website.
