Evidence of gunfire found at Toronto Jewish elementary school
The Toronto Police Service (TPS) is investigating after evidence of gunfire was discovered overnight at a Jewish elementary school in North York.
TPS officers were notified of a firearm discharge at Bais Chaya Mushka School for Girls, located in the Sheppard Avenue West and Chesswood Drive area, just after 2:30 a.m. on Friday.
Police said no injuries were reported.
The Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force is investigating, and the Hate Crime Unit has been made aware of the incident.
The all-girls elementary school has been the target of similar shootings in the past, just recently in October. Two arrests were made, including a 17-year-old youth.
A separate shooting incident at Bais Chaya Mushka School for Girls was reported to the police in May. Surveillance footage from that incident showed a dark-coloured vehicle pulling up in front of the school at around 4:50 a.m. No injuries were reported in either case.
The rash of gunfire led Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Mayor Olivia Chow to strongly condemn the acts of violence.
