Firefighters knock down industrial blaze in Chilliwack Friday

The Chilliwack Fire Department was kept busy Friday afternoon after a blaze broke out in an industrial building on Simpson Road near Unsworth.
Crews responded to the call around 5 p.m. and found a fire in a material dryer and conveyor system.
“Fire crews worked to access the seat of the fire inside the machinery and were able to extinguish the fire without further damaging any of the equipment,” Assistant Chief Chris Wilson said.
Wilson says the heat in the equipment caused the flames to spread to a small section of the building’s roof.
“Through the use of thermal imaging cameras, fire crews were able to locate and track the spread of the roof fire, which provided for an efficient extinguishment and overhaul of the fire,” he said.
It took around 30 firefighters to knock the blaze down, Wilson says.
No injuries were reported in the fire, and the cause is under investigation.
