First suspect of Richmond mall theft arrested

The Richmond RCMP’s investigation led to identifying and laying charges against one suspect in the alleged theft and robbery at a Richmond mall.

The charges include two separate alleged offences in January 2025. In the first incident, on January 16th, two men reportedly entered the mall and stole 53 pairs of sunglasses valued at over $23,000.

The second incident occurred on January 20th, when one of the men from the initial theft, this time accompanied by a woman, allegedly returned to the mall. During this second event, they reportedly produced bear spray while stealing an additional nine pairs of sunglasses worth over $3,200.

Police report that the suspect, Escobar Bogarin, faces charges of theft over $5,000, robbery, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was arrested and subsequently released from custody under several conditions, one of which prohibits him from being present at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet mall.

Two suspects still at large

“Retail theft is a serious concern for our local residents and business community. By bringing charges against those involved, we hope to send a loud message that criminal acts will not be tolerated,” says Staff Sergeant Sahan Perera, officer of the Vancouver International Airport Police Operations.

RCMP asks the public for help in identifying two other suspects who are allegedly partake in the theft.

The first suspect is described as a female with shoulder-length orange/yellow hair. She was wearing a medical mask, a black hat, a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and white running shoes with blue stripes. She was also holding a canister in her right hand.

The second suspect is described as a male with black hair. He was wearing a beige baseball hat, a dark denim jacket, a black shirt, and blue jeans. He was carrying a green reusable shopping bag and also holding a canister in his hand.
