A Richmond RCMP vehicle and a truck were involved in a crash late Monday night, hospitalizing five people, including one police officer.

According to Mounties, the RCMP police vehicle, with lights and siren activated, was on its way to another incident when it collided with a truck at the intersection of Williams Road and No. 4 Road at around 9:12 p.m.

The crash caused the truck to strike two pedestrians and a resident who was on a nearby property.

All five individuals, including the police officer, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) has been called in to investigate the actions of the police officers involved. The IIO is called in after any police-related incidents that result in death or serious injury, whether or not there are any allegations of wrongdoing.
