Grouse Grind trail closes for 3 days
Wednesday marks the beginning of a three-day closure of the notoriously difficult Grouse Grind trail in North Vancouver.
Metro Vancouver Regional District is advising hopeful hikers that the trail is closed due to safety hazards related to helicopter work on the mountain.
In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio, a Metro Vancouver spokesperson explained that the work involves moving materials and equipment for trail work planned this fall.
“It’s expected that the helicopter work will be complete on Friday and the trail reopened on Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m.,” said the spokesperson, adding that if it reopens any earlier, Metro Vancouver will post another advisory.
The nearby BCMC Route remains open. The regional district says BCMC offers a similar but “more rustic” challenge.
“If choosing this route, please wear hiking shoes with good ankle support and bring plenty of water. Plan ahead and hike safely,” said Metro Vancouver.
The Grouse Grind Trail will be closed again from Oct. 14 to Nov. 7 for annual trail maintenance.
