Homicide investigators release Langley fatal fire victim’s identity

Homicide investigators have released the identity of a man who became the victim of a deadly structure fire in Langley on Friday.
Police received reports of the residential structure fire just before 7:30 a.m. on April 18. A body was located once the blaze was extinguished, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called to investigate.
In an update Monday, IHIT publicly identified the victim and shared a photo in an effort to advance the investigation.
Police say 47-year-old Tyler Smith had only recently moved to the area before the fire.
IHIT says while investigators believe it was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to the public, they’re hoping anyone with information about it comes forward.
“We are particularly interested in anyone who may have been in contact with Mr. Smith in the recent days leading up to his death,” said Sgt. Freda Fong.
Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage who was in the area of 56 Avenue near Glover Road between 10:00 p.m. on April 17 and 8:00 a.m. on April 18 is asked to call the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
