Human-caused wildfire near Lytton continues to grow Friday
The Izman Creek wildfire, burning out of control about 25 kilometres north of Lytton, has grown to around 155 hectares since it was first discovered.
The blaze was sparked Tuesday when an “equipment failure of an RCMP trailer” caused a fire in a grass-filled ditch.
Weather conditions are not helping the situation, and this isn’t expected to improve anytime soon, says BC Wildfire Service information officer Cali Nessman.
“With the heat of the day on the afternoon and evening periods, we have seen increased activity yesterday and throughout the next couple days, we’re expecting that to remain the same,” Nessman said.
“We are seeing some hot, dry, and windy weather, and especially in that area where the fire is burning, and that’s anticipated to continue for the next couple days.”
She says the blaze is not currently threatening any structures, but some evacuation orders and alerts are still in place.
The Izman Creek wildfire is one of around 80 active wildfires around the province and is the only wildfire of note.
