Human remains have been found at the scene of an early morning fire in Osoyoos, Mounties say.

Osoyoos RCMP and Osoyoos Fire Rescue were called to a fire at a mobile home in the Avalon Mobile Home Park on Main Street around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

By the time crews got there, RCMP say the home was already engulfed in flames. Once it was extinguished, crews found the remains of one person inside.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the decedent during this most difficult time, says Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional RCMP spokesperson Sgt Jason Bayda. “The BC Coroners Service has been engaged and is conducting their own concurrent fact-finding investigation.”

The source of the blaze has yet to be determined, but it does not appear suspicious, police say.
