Some human remains that were found in Richmond in late July have been linked to the death of a Surrey woman who went missing a year ago.

On Feb. 23, 28-year-old Navdeep Kaur was reported missing by her family to the Surrey RCMP.

In March, the Lower Mainland’s homicide team took over the investigation, which was initially thought to be a missing person case, after evidence was found that Kaur may have been a “victim of foul play.”

In an update released Wednesday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says it is identifying “the human remains found in Richmond on July 23, 2024 as those of Navdeep Kaur.”

Mounties say they received a report around noon on July 23, of possible human remains found where Williams Road reaches the Fraser River. (The Leader Spirit Image)

IHIT says it has started several investigative paths to determine the circumstances of Kaur’s death.

“We are releasing an update with the hope that someone who knows something about Ms. Kaur’s disappearance and homicide may come forward,” says Corporal Sukhi Dhesi of IHIT.

IHIT is asking anyone with information to call them immediately at the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
