HWY 99 closures coming for removal of Steveston HWY crossing

If you usually travel along Highway 99 in Richmond late at night or early in the morning, you will need to look for an alternate route for the next few weekends.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure explains that crews will be closing the highway overnight over the weekends as they work to dismantle and remove the old Steveston Highway crossing.

The highway will be closed in both directions on Jan. 31, Feb. 1, and Feb. 2 from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., but until 5 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3. The same closures will be in effect over the weekends of Feb. 7- 9 and Feb. 21-23.

During the closures, drivers will be detoured using the highway’s on- and off-ramps.

“There will be no impact to traffic during the week,” the Ministry said in a statement. “Drivers are asked to use caution through any detours and obey the construction zone speed limit.”

As work is weather-dependent, the Ministry says that construction may need to be rescheduled if conditions on the weekends are “unfavourable.”
