B.C.’s police watchdog agency says it was called in after an Abbotsford Police Department vehicle was involved in a collision Thursday afternoon.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC says three people were taken to hospital after the accident, which happened just after 4 p.m.

“The driver and sole occupant of the Envoy sustained injuries in the collision and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment,” the IIO said in a news release.

“Both officers in the police vehicle were also taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”

The agency says it was notified shortly after the collision took place.

“Information provided by the Abbotsford Police Department states that at about 4:05 p.m. today (February 20, 2025), a police vehicle engaged in an unrelated investigation was involved in a collision with a civilian vehicle, a GMC Envoy, near the intersection of King and Gladwin roads,” it said.

In a post to social media around 5:30 p.m., the AbbyPD said King Road was closed between Columbia and Jackson streets.

It is unclear what led to the crash.

Anyone with any information or video footage is asked to call the IIO Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477.
