Peel Regional Police arrested four men and seized multiple firearms following a traffic stop in Mississauga last week.

Officers initially stopped the vehicle on December 4th shorty after 4:00 a.m. to question the driver, 22-year-old Justin Salmon of Brampton, who was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was taken into custody and faces five charges, including driving without a licence and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

According to police, two illegal handguns were also located during the course of their investigation, one of which was allegedly loaded and concealed on one of the passengers.

In addition to Salmon, authorities also arrested 22-year-old Adrian Gregory of Brampton, 23-year-old Kerrick Campbell-Reid of Ridgeway and 22-year-old Benjamin Jaramillo of Thornhill.

Gregory and Campbell-Reid face multiple charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Jaramillo faces one charge for occupying a motor vehicle while knowing there was a firearm inside the car.

Few details have been released, but police say the two weapons were illegal 9mm Glock 19 handguns, one of which was allegedly equipped with an extended magazine and loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition and the other had been modified to fire automatically.

“This is a prime example of the importance of proactive police work and the impact it has on our community’s safety,” Deputy Chief of Police Marc Andrews said in a statement. “Thanks to these patrol officers, two illegal firearms are out of the hands of criminals and cannot be used to victimize members of our community. A job well done!”
