The Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment is investigating illegal dumping at Grange Quarry, Bird of Paradise Drive, Tobago.
The division said it received reports of a vehicle bearing the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) logo being involved with the “improper handling of white waste.”
The Grange Quarry, owned by THA, is used as temporary storage for backfill material.
Although the division handles white-waste disposal, it said the dumping at the quarry is adverse to its core principles and procedures, and wasunsanctioned.
“The division does not condone improper waste disposal or illegal dumping,” it said in a press release on Friday.
The environmental police at the Department of the Environment were contacted and an investigation is under way.
DIQE management said anyone breaching environmental laws “will be treated with accordingly.”
The division said it is committed to promoting the sustainable use of the environment and preserving the quality of air, land and water resources.
