A series of searches and exercises in the Northern Division on Tuesday led to the seizure of a pistol and a magazine containing a quantity of ammunition, in two separate incidents.
Police said members of the Arouca CID and the Air Guard went to an abandoned house in Bon Air Circular, Arouca, at around 10.30 am and found a .380 pistol and four rounds of ammunition wrapped in a white shirt.
Investigators suspect the gun was used in a recent assault.
At around 10 pm, members of the Northern Division Area Central and the Northern Division Task Force went to an amabdoned apartment in Maloney Gardens where they found an extended magazine holding 31 rounds of ammunition.
No one was arrested.
Northern Division police are continuing enquiries.
