Camp Ogden at Long Circular Road, St James. – Ayanna Kinsale
REGIMENT officers are still investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting at Camp Ogden, St James.
Sources told Newsday that while officers investigate the matter, the soldier – a private at the regiment base of the first infantry battalion, remains detained.
According to reports, a scuffle broke out between the private who was on guard duty and a warrant officer at the camp last Thursday night. The private was about to be detained for alleged insubordination when he allegedly snatched an assault rifle and began shooting in the air.
He ran to the western end of the camp toward a nearby river but he was intercepted and detained.
