The Iranian Canadian community rallied at the Vancouver Art Gallery Saturday afternoon to mark the 45th anniversary of the anti-monarchic revolution in Iran.

The 1979 revolution was a series of events that overthrew the last Shah of the dictatorship in Iran.

“Commemorating over 860 victims of the brutal crackdown by the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) and other suppressive forces of the regime including 80 children, the speakers stress on the need to support the people of Iran in their quest to overthrow the regime and establish a pluralistic, democratic, secular and non-nuclear republic in Iran,” the organizers said.

An exhibition of the victims of the regime and a march following the rally were also scheduled.

The speakers at the rally stress the need to support the people of Iran in their quest to overthrow the regime and establish a democratic Iran.

Organizers say participants at the rally are asking the Government of Canada to list the IRGC as a terrorist entity and to hold the regime leaders, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei, accountable for their crimes.
