Langley RCMP cruiser rammed during attempted traffic stop
Police are investigating after a driver intentionally rammed a marked cruiser near Willowbrook Mall in Langley Wednesday, the RCMP says.
Officers received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Willowbrook Drive and 198th Street around 10:30 a.m.
When they arrived, they found the driver slumped over the wheel.
“As one officer attempted to wake the driver, the driver suddenly regained consciousness, placed the vehicle in drive, and intentionally rammed the marked police cruiser, which had its emergency equipment activated,” the Langley RCMP said.
“The suspect vehicle continued to push the police vehicle before fleeing the area westbound on Willowbrook Drive at a high rate of speed.”
Officers had to quickly get out of the way to avoid being hit by the vehicle.
After investigating, police determined the vehicle’s licence plates were stolen and had been switched.
“This was an extremely dangerous situation that put both officers and members of the public at significant risk,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom.
“The driver’s decision to use a vehicle as a weapon and flee at a high rate of speed is unacceptable, and investigators are actively working to identify and locate those responsible.”
No injuries have been reported.
Anyone with information or dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident is asked to call the Langley RCMP and refer to file 2025-41931.
