A large sinkhole at the heart of the Church-Wellesley Village has disrupted traffic at the busy intersection while construction crews work on a repair.

Police initially released an alert about a hazard in the area at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. When contacted by The Leader Spirit, a spokesperson for the City of Toronto could not say when the repairs would be completed.

Meanwhile, the TTC has implemented a detour for buses travelling along the eastbound 94 route due to the construction.

Photos from the scene appear to show a sinkhole measuring approximately two to four metres wide in the northwest corner of the intersection.

Wellesley Street is closed in both directions, but northbound and southbound traffic continues to flow along Church Street.

No other details were released.
