Delta police arrested a man suspected of stealing a construction vehicle in Tsawwassen over the weekend.

The Delta Police Department responded to reports of someone driving a boom lift — a wheeled aerial lift machine — “erratically” from a construction site onto Tsawwassen streets just before midnight Sunday.

“The vehicle caused property damage and struck street signs as it was recklessly driven through the community,” said police.

Officers say the driver allegedly approached a local, asking directions to the nearest liquor store before abandoning the vehicle and running on foot into a cornfield.

Police tracked and found a suspect nearby. He was arrested for breaking and entering, theft over $5,000, and mischief.

The man was released and is expected in court on a “future date.”

“DPD officers were also able to safely return the boom lift to the construction site.”
