A man is facing potential sexual assault charges after allegedly groping a woman on a crowded 99-B Line bus in Vancouver last month.

The incident happened on June 9, just after 8 a.m., on the bus travelling along West Broadway.

Police allege the man, a stranger to the victim, boarded the bus, stood directly behind the woman, and made inappropriate sexual contact.

“Two female bystanders on board the bus witnessed the alleged assault and confronted the suspect, who fled the bus on foot,” said a release Wednesday.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police say after an investigation, they were able to identify the suspect and arrest him.

He has since been released on certain conditions, including that he not ride on any Metro Vancouver bus.

Transit police have recommended that Crown Counsel approve one count of sexual assault against the suspect.
