Police say a man has been charged after allegedly threatening two Surrey residents with an axe outside their home Monday.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it was called to a trailer on a property near 113b Avenue and 124 Street around 2:45 p.m.

A man was reportedly breaking the trailer’s windows with an axe and threatening the two residents within.

Police say the man went inside a house on the same property and didn’t emerge for hours. Police say an emergency response team was called to assist.

“At approximately 6:30 p.m., the suspect and another resident of the house exited and were taken into custody,” police explained.

In an update Tuesday, the SPS says a 39-year-old man has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon, two counts of uttering threats, and two counts of mischief over $5,000.

The man was also arrested for two outstanding warrants related to weapon possession.

The suspect remains in custody. He is expected in court Tuesday afternoon.
