A high-risk sex offender is facing new charges after a teenage girl was assaulted at a Surrey SkyTrain station earlier this year.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police say they were called to Gateway Station in Surrey back in April after a 17-year-old girl reported that she’d been groped.

Police allege the suspect followed the victim off a train and assaulted her as she was walking the station platform.

“He fled the station after she approached other passengers for help.”

In an update Thursday, MVTP announced that 30-year-old Hayden McCorriston is now facing sexual assault charges in relation to the incident.

He was previously convicted of sexually assaulting multiple women in Burnaby in Vancouver in 2022.

The latest alleged offence happened one day after the Vancouver Police Department issued a public warning that McCorriston had been released into the community and would be living at a halfway house in Vancouver.

He was arrested a couple of days later by the VPD after police say he violated the conditions of his release.
