Police have arrested a man suspected of spitting on a stranger in downtown Vancouver this week.

The Vancouver Police Department says the victim, a woman in her 60s, alleges that a man approached her and spat in her face while she was walking her dog shortly after midnight on Dec. 29.

She helped officers identify a suspect who was later arrested.

In a statement Wednesday, the VPD says a 41-year-old man is now facing an assault charge.

“Police believe the incident was unprovoked,” said the department.

The suspect has reportedly been released on bail. Records show that a man with the same name is expected back in court on Jan. 20.
