A man has been arrested and charged in relation to a shooting in downtown Chilliwack earlier this week, Mounties say.

Ryan Diablo has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and failure to comply with a court order.

Police say the suspect and victim know each other and there is no evidence to link them with the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict.

“Various specialized sections assisted the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Unit in tirelessly pursuing all leads and meticulously gathering evidence to advance this dynamic investigation, as well as safely taking Mr. Diablo into custody,” said Cpl. Carmen Kiener of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.

Following the shooting, which took place on Nowell Street near Yale Road shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, a victim was transported to Chilliwack General Hospital, where a lockdown was put in place to ensure their safety. The lockdown has since been lifted.
