Police say a 54-year-old man has been charged in connection with a stabbing and double homicide in East Vancouver’s Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood Friday.

Police say they received reports of a stabbing at a residential building near Vanness Avenue and Spencer Street just before 2 p.m. When they arrived, they found a 50-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries.

They later found two homicide victims — both women — in another building near Joyce Street and Vanness Avenue.

On Saturday, police announced they had arrested the suspect — Viet Quy John Ly of Vancouver — who was found with non-life-threatening injuries at the scene of the homicides.

“Police believe the stabbing and the homicides are connected,” the VPD said.

“Investigators are continuing to collect and analyze evidence, and the homicide victims have not yet been identified.”

The VPD says the B.C. Prosecution Service has approved two counts of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault against Ly.

Ly remains in custody, police say.
