Man charged with murder in Kelowna in family law litigation with victim
The Kelowna RCMP announced Saturday that a man has been charged with second-degree murder after a reported assault. The victim and the suspect are known to each other, and they were involved in active family law litigation.
Police say they were called to the area of Enterprise Way near Spall Road just before 1 p.m. on Friday after receiving a report of a motor vehicle incident and subsequent assault.
Two women were taken to hospital. One of the victims, Bailey Plover, died at the hospital, while the second is suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“This was a highly visible and tragic event, and we recognize the profound impact it has had on many individuals and the community,” said Insp. Chris Goebel.
“While our investigation is ongoing, we are incredibly grateful to the witnesses who have already come forward and the first responders who acted swiftly and professionally in managing this high-risk situation. Their cooperation has been instrumental in helping us move this complex investigation forward.”
The suspect, James Edward Plover, remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 10.
In addition to family law litigation, the suspect and victim were involved in foreclosure proceedings from two separate banks.
1130 NewsRadio has reached out to the Kelowna RCMP to confirm the exact nature of the relationship between the victim and the suspect.
Police are asking anyone who may have information about the suspect’s movements or activities in the days leading up to the incident to call the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 250-470-6236 and refer to file 2025-38322.
