A 38-year-old man has been charged with a string of offences in connection with multiple break-and-enter attempts and assault in a South Surrey neighbourhood early Wednesday.

David Hoffman is accused of attempting to break into three different homes and a community centre after he allegedly assaulted the two victims.

Police say they were called to the area of King George Boulevard and 160th Street around 1:30 a.m. The suspect was arrested at the scene.

The timeline of events is unclear, but security footage obtained by The Leader Spirit shows a violent attack on a male resident at the Breakaway Bays mobile home park. A woman in the house was also attacked.

A resident of the trailer park, Liana Wicklund, says she woke up to the sound of her neighbour screaming in the middle of the night.

“I looked out, and I saw him on the ground, and this man, this big man on top of him, just pummelling him and fighting him. And then I heard his partner screaming, and he kept on pummelling him,” Wicklund said.

After she called 911, the suspect went to another home in the area and then tried to break into the trailer park’s clubhouse, which is where police caught up with him.

Hoffman faces two counts of break and enter, one count of assault, two counts of mischief under $5,000, and one count of failing to comply with a release order.

The suspect is known to police. He is currently in custody awaiting a court appearance scheduled for March 3.
