The B.C. Supreme Court has found a man guilty of murdering another man in Surrey eight years ago.

Twenty-eight-year-old Nicholas Khabra was shot to death on Oct. 23, 2017.

In May the following year, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) began an investigation into an organized crime group believed to be involved in a series of homicides, including Khabra’s.

In September 2018, Brandon Teixeira was charged with first-degree murder related to the shooting.

“There were attempts made to arrest him, but he was able to evade police, and he was believed to have fled the country at that time,” explained Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha with the CFSEU-BC.

Police in Oroville, Calif., arrested Teixeira in late 2019. He was extradited to Canada in early 2020.

In an update Friday, police say Teixeira’s trial concluded Monday with a conviction. He was found guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm with intent in Khabra’s murder.

Sangha tells 1130 NewsRadio he expects the court to sentence Teixeira in September.

“This was a very complex investigation on a very violent individual who was involved in this homicide, and we are very happy with the results from the courts,” said Sangha.
