A man was seriously injured after a shooting at a Surrey park overnight, police say.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) was called to the parking lot for Bear Creek Park on 88th Avenue and 138A Street just after 9 p.m. after a report of a man being shot after an altercation between two groups of people.

The man was taken to hospital by friends. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, police say.

The SPS says the suspect left the scene in a grey-coloured sedan. He is described as an adult man, a short beard, a black turban, and dark-coloured clothing.

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton tells 1130 NewsRadio the incident is not believed to be related to extortion or the B.C. Gang Conflict.

Any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to call the SPS at 604-599-0502 and refer to file 2025-79990 (SP).
