Man stabbed from behind at Abbotsford bus stop: police
Abbotsford police are investigating after a 20-year-old man was stabbed by a stranger Tuesday night while waiting for a bus.
The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) says it responded to a reported stabbing on South Fraser Way near the West Oaks Mall around 6:15 p.m.
Police say the suspect approached from behind, there was an altercation, and the suspect stabbed the victim.
“The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment,” said an AbbyPD release Wednesday.
Sgt. Paul Walker tells 1130 NewsRadio it’s not clear what led to the incident, but police are investigating the crime as a random act.
“Indications suggest, at this point, they were not related to each other…The exact circumstances of why this occurred are unknown, but it appears to be random in nature at this point,” said Walker.
Police say the suspect ran from the scene on foot.
He is described as an approximately 6′ tall man in his 40s with a slender build and “dishevelled” brown hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black Nike t-shirt with the words “Just Do It” in bold white lettering on the front, black pants, and black shoes.
Walker says the bus stop and approaching bus were filled with people. The AbbyPD is asking any witnesses in the area between 6 and 7 p.m. to come forward.
