Police say a man was arrested after allegedly threatening staff with a machete in a New Westminster restaurant last month.

The New Westminster Police Department says it responded to the scene on 12th Street and Kingston Street around 7 p.m. on April 26.

“When police arrived, they learned that a man armed with a machete screamed demands at staff before fleeing the scene,” said a release Monday.

Officers reportedly collected evidence leading to an arrest near 8th Street and 8th Avenue.

The department says it will be recommending charges related to robbery and assault with a weapon.
