The mayor of Princeton says the city is where it was three years ago following the atmospheric river that hit the Fraser Valley in November of 2021.

Mayor Spencer Coyne tells 1130 NewsRadio that Princton’s infrastructure has not improved much as rural communities are struggling without federal support.

“We didn’t get our federal funding. So kind of back to the drawing board as to what we’re going to do next because there’s no funds for it,” he said.

The mayor emphasizes that it is not just Princeton that is facing difficulties.

“Talking to other municipalities across the country, it’s not just us, it seems to be rural Canada in general.”

In the meantime, he says the city has been monitoring snow pack levels as the community is starting to see some rain.

Coyne says, fortunately, they do have a new rating system for atmospheric rivers that is better than the old one they had.
