Metro Vancouver gas prices to see ‘decent drop soon’

Drivers have probably noticed the price at the gas pump is back into the $1.80s across Metro Vancouver, even though B.C. lifted the 17-cent carbon tax on gasoline on Tuesday.

Rising prices have been blamed on a refinery fire in California that is affecting the West Coast supply.

But analyst Patrick De Haan at Gas Buddy expects a litre of regular will start dropping early next week or possibly this weekend as oil prices have been declining.

“The refinery fire … could reduce some of the savings, but with oil collapsing again today, it still looks like you may get a decent drop soon,” he said Friday.

The slight drop comes as central Canada is expecting to see a seven-cent drop in the price at the pump come Saturday.

According to Roger McKnight, Chief Petroleum Analyst at En-Pro International Inc., Toronto and GTA gas prices are expected to drop seven cents to 132.9 a litre at most stations on Saturday, April 5.
