Multi-vehicle crash involving tanker truck forces Highway 401 closure near Avenue Road
A multi-vehicle crash involving a tanker trailer forced the closure of the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Avenue Road late Friday night.
Provincial police say the incident occurred in the westbound lanes just after 11 p.m. It was unclear how many vehicles were involved or the extent of injuries.
Photos from the scene show a tanker truck blocking the westbound portion of the express lanes. The cab of the truck is on its side and what appears to be the liquid portion of its load is spread across the highway. A portion of the concrete barrier separating the express lanes has also been damaged, with large pieces of concrete debris strewn across the eastbound portion of the highway.
Paramedics tell The Leader Spirit they had transported one man to a trauma centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries, but were still on the scene assessing patients.
One lane of the eastbound portion of the highway was opened to allow traffic to pass through shortly after midnight.
