All five lanes of the new Steveston interchange at Highway 99 in Richmond are now open, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit said Tuesday.

The new interchange has three lanes westbound and two eastbound.

“The new overpass will also improve travel times to and from communities south of the Fraser River by significantly reducing backups in the northbound off-ramp lanes on Highway 99,” the ministry said in a news release.

The Steveston interchange came with a price tag of $87.5 million and is part of the Highway 99 Tunnel Program to replace the aging George Massey tunnel.

While traffic is now flowing on all five lanes of the interchange, work including landscaping and on- and off-ramp paving will continue through spring.
