New Westminster residents may have noticed a significant police presence in the Uptown area on Friday due to a series of break-ins.

The New Westminster Police Department was called to reports of three incidents, which occurred between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., at businesses within a few city blocks.

Police say one incident took place at 6th Street near 3rd Avenue, while two more took place on 6th Avenue between 6th and 8th streets.

“At one point, there were officers at three different crime scenes within a few blocks of each other,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver in a statement.

Police dog services were deployed to search the area.

Investigators are now working to determine if a single suspect is responsible for all three break-ins.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the police. You can reach the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
