A pedestrian was struck by a car along McBride Boulevard Wednesday morning, the New Westminster Police Department says.

The collision has closed McBride Boulevard in both directions south of 6th Avenue.

“The driver of the vehicle remains on scene. All the contributing factors of this incident are still under investigation,” the NWPD said in a statement to 1130 NewsRadio.

Police did not confirm whether the pedestrian was seriously injured or taken to hospital.

“The closure is expected to last for several hours as police investigate the circumstances of the collision,” police added.

“If you witnessed this collision and haven’t spoken to police about what you saw please contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.”

The crash, just by Queen’s Park, is creating difficulties for those trying to get to the Pattullo Bridge.

Northbound traffic along McBride is detouring at Memorial Drive.

Meanwhile, northbound traffic heading to New West from Surrey across the Pattullo is crawling from King George Boulevard and 132 Street.

You can take the Port Mann Bridge as an alternate route.
