Police in New Westminster need your help investigating a suspicious interaction involving two teenage girls over the weekend.

The New Westminster Police Department says on Saturday, Oct. 26 around 11 a.m. near Queens Avenue and 11 Street, two 12-year-old girls were approached by a man in a white cargo van while they were standing outside a residence.

Police say the man asked them if they wanted to go for a ride, but the two girls left immediately to inform a trusted adult.

Officers say the suspect can only be described as a man for the time being.

“Police are working to obtain more details about the driver’s appearance,” they said.

The police department is asking anyone who lives or drives through the area to check for any CCTV or dash camera footage between 10:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. They are asking you to download and call the NWPD referencing file number 24-17900.

The NWPD wants to make sure parents and children are aware of this incident.

“We invite parents to have a conversation with their kids about the risks of accepting rides from strangers,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver, NWPD.
