North Shore gridlock traffic prompts petition

If you reside on the North Shore and find that your daily commute seems to drag on endlessly lately, you’re not alone.

A group of residents has started a petition calling for major changes.

They say that ferry traffic, bridge bottlenecks, and other daily hurdles make traffic on the North Shore increasingly difficult.

Organizers say it often only takes a single accident to bring traffic to a standstill, and criticize what they call the region’s “outdated transportation infrastructure.”

The group claims that gridlocks are not just an inconvenience; they are a potential hazard in emergency cases.

The petition’s organizers are now demanding that local governments re-evaluate the region’s infrastructure.

At the end of July, many 1130 NewsRadio listeners called the station saying there were longer-than-usual traffic delays on the North Shore.

One caller, named Bob, reported being stuck in traffic for more than six hours in North Vancouver for a route that usually takes him less than two hours on busy days.

More than 1,500 people have signed the online petition.
