North Shore Rescue saves 2 hikers who slipped on wet trails

North Shore Rescue (NSR) says it responded to two incidents in as many days, involving hikers who slipped or tripped on trails this weekend.

On Saturday, rescue crews assisted Lions Bay Search and Rescue after a hiker was injured on the Tunnel Bluffs Trail and couldn’t walk.

NSR says the injured hiker had to be airlifted by helicopter to a nearby school field.

The next day, NSR volunteers helped a young hiker on the Eagleridge Bluffs Trail.

Due to weather, the helicopter was grounded, so NSR teams hiked in to assist.

“NSR field teams were able to hike in to the subject and his friends (who had been moving very slowly down the trail), assessed/treated, and assisted him back down the trail,” said the rescue service on social media.

NSR is asking you to be cautious of slippery roots and rocks, and you’re urged to consider using hiking poles when braving local trails in wet conditions.
