North Vancouver man loses tools and sentimental items in theft
An apprentice plumber in North Vancouver says it has been a difficult week after everything in his car was stolen last Monday, including his tools and wallet.
Matt Eyers lives in the Maplewood area and says he parked his car in his driveway after picking up his daughter from school. However, he says he did not lock his car until late that evening.
“I guess [in] a case of misjudgement, we didn’t lock the car and so we went to bed around 11:30 p.m.,” said Eyers. “I woke up Tuesday morning to go to work and I opened the car and everything I owned was gone.”
Eyers says his tools are worth almost $3,000 and he uses them every single day at work. With only two weeks into the New Year, Eyers says it is going to be tough replacing them.
One irreplaceable item taken was a note from Eyers’ late mother, which was written while she was in the hospital.
“I kept [the note] with me to read or look at during tough times that I would face….that was kind of really the only thing I’m kind of bummed about.”
Having lived in the area for four years, Eyers says he has not heard of many break-ins and this is a tough lesson to learn.
“We’ve met a few people and they have never said they’ve had any issues living in the neighbourhood. It’s always been a positive experience, so that’s why it was a bit shocking.”
Since the incident, Eyers says he has filed a police report, but there has been little follow-up. Eyers found a respirator and some of his high school IDs from his wallet at a nearby bus stop. He says a couple people in the community have also reached out and he’s trying to stay optimistic.
“Anything and everything is helpful at this point.”
