Rise and grind: Metro Vancouver says a temporary closure of the Grouse Grind trail in North Vancouver has ended one day ahead of schedule.

On Wednesday, the regional district advised hopeful hikers that the trail would close for three days due to safety hazards related to helicopter work on the mountain.

A Metro Vancouver spokesperson explained that it involved moving materials and equipment for trail work planned this fall.

In an update Thursday, the district announced it had completed the work and the trail would reopen one day early, on Friday morning.

The notoriously difficult 2.5-kilometre climb up approximately 800 metres of elevation is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The trail will be closed again from Oct. 14 to Nov. 7 for annual trail maintenance.
