Pedestrian dies after being hit by taxi downtown, Vancouver police say

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it is investigating after a pedestrian was struck by the driver of a Blacktop Taxi downtown Friday night and later died.

Police say the 55-year-old man was hit at the intersection of Smithe and Cambie just after 10 p.m. He was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The taxi driver suffered minor injuries in the collision and remained at the scene.

VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit is investigating to determine the circumstances that led up to the crash.
