A pedestrian has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a vehicle in New Westminster Wednesday afternoon.

BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) and the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) told 1130 NewsRadio that just after 5:15 p.m. emergency crews received a phone call about a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian near McBride Boulevard and 8 Avenue.

“Two ambulances responded and transported one patient to hospital in serious condition,” said Joshua Grant, media relations with EHS.

In an email, the NWPD shared that “the pedestrian has been transported to hospital with serious, but not believed to be life-threatening injuries.”

The NWPD says the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

“The intersection remains closed as our officers work to determine the circumstances of the incident. We ask drivers to plan alternate routes and appreciate their patience as we conduct our investigation.”

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or those who may have dash-cam footage to contact the NWPD.
