Homicide investigators have been deployed to Pemberton, a B.C. village north of Whistler, after a young woman’s death was deemed suspicious.

The Pemberton RCMP responded to reports of an unresponsive woman in a home on Prospect Street around 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.

Police say first responders declared the woman dead on the scene.

In an update Thursday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says it has taken over the investigation after a consultation with the BC Coroners Service.

IHIT has released the identity and a photo of the victim, 22-year-old Tabitha Peters, hoping anyone with more information will come forward.

“Initial evidence suggests this was an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the public,” investigators said.

If you have information about Peters’ death to share, you’re asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
