Plane makes emergency landing at YVR for ‘safety concerns’

Ambulances were called to the tarmac at Vancouver International Airport Sunday morning for what the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) says was an emergency landing.

A PHSA spokesperson says they were called out to the airport shortly before 9:30 a.m., and while the situation did not appear serious, they attended out of safety concerns.

YVR confirms the incident, saying the aircraft landed safely.

“Earlier today, Philippines Airline flight PAL5117 returned to YVR shortly after departure,” Kate Macrae, communications specialist with the Vancouver Airport Authority, told 1130 NewsRadio.

“Out of an abundance of caution, YVR Fire and Rescue along with first responders, including BC Emergency Health Services, attended the aircraft to assist with deplaning passengers and crew.”

In an update just after 2 p.m. Sunday, PHSA spokesperson Joshua Grant said, “One ambulance supervisor responded, along with paramedics on the YVR bike squad to support passengers and crew as they deplaned. No one was transported to hospital.”

Mcrae says the plane returned about an hour and a half after departure.

The PHSA says five ambulances responded, along with some bike squad paramedics who were already at the airport.
